When Bram Stoker was writing his novel Dracula, he originally wanted to use the name Count Wampyr.  However, after reading some Romanian history books, he came across the name Dracula based on the historical story of Prince Vlad III, also known as Vlad The Impaler or Dracula and decided to change the name, as well as the characters backstory.
