Buffy Creator Joss Whedon

It seems absurd, but if Warner Bros. goes through with a new reboot of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, it won’t include creator Joss Whedon. It’s absurd because not only is Whedon the creator, but he has become hugely successful since the demise of Buffy. He’s been tied to Marvel Comic money makers The Avengers and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and is a fan favorite at Fan Expo’s and Comic-Con’s the world over. The reason to leave Whedon out is unclear, it could be a matter of ego’s or perhaps WB wants to take the reboot in a direction that Whedon is uncomfortable with. Either way it would be a shame to leave him off the project.

When the original Buffy The Vampire Slayer movie starring Kristy Swanson came out in 1992, Joss Whedon was fresh on the hollywood scene. Perhaps a little too eager to bring his vision into fruition, most of the rights to Buffy where signed over to the director/producing team of Fran Rubel Kazui and Kaz Kazui. When the movie was released, it was nowhere near the vision that Whedon had sought out and perhaps this created some bad blood between the Kazui’s.

The husband/wife team have not done anything since the cancelation of Angel in 2004, so maybe they are looking to cash in on previous success and why not? Reboots have been coming in waves across Hollywood and audiences are loving them.

So the question is, can a Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot be successful without Joss Whedon? It would be like trying to live without a heart. After all Whedon is the heart and soul of Buffy Summers.

Guess we will have to wait and see.
